Permit issuance declined significantly this week, with total permits falling to 11,249, representing a 19% decrease from the previous week. Despite the decline, several markets showed exceptional growth. Charlotte, NC emerged as the week's biggest mover, with commercial permits jumping 750% to 17 permits, followed by a 233% increase in renovation permits. Seattle, WA posted a 567% spike in roofing permits, climbing from 6 to 40.
Of the 11,249 total permits issued, 1,506 represent direct opportunities where homeowners are contracting work themselves, creating potential acquisition targets for service providers. San Diego continued to lead opportunity cities with 868 permits, followed by Washington with 263 and Philadelphia with 108. The week also featured several megaprojects in Miami, including a $264 million permit at 18801 Collins Ave, driving regional activity despite modest week-over-week trends.
Contractor activity concentrated in established markets, with a Miami-based owner entity leading with 250 permits. New York City operations showed strength across multiple operators, with Mercury Building Asso Inc and ACS System Associates Inc each capturing 79 permits across the five boroughs. Minneapolis-based mechanical contractors maintained significant activity, with Gilbert Mechanical Contractors logging 50 permits.
